In an effort to help tell the story as information was being published in the news, I created these multimedia materials. I created this image for publicati
Over the past several months I’ve been working on methods to visualize objects in orbit around the earth. I created a simulation that includes all trackable objects currently in the publicly available database divided into 4 datasets – Low Earth Orbit (LEO) inactive, LEO active, Geosynchronous (GEO) inactive, and GEO active. This first video shows all active (green) vs inactive (orange) objects. The gif at the
This animation was created to visualize the reentry of the Russian satellite Phobos-Grunt, which was originally designed to return soil samples from Phobos, one of the moons of Mars. After a couple failed burns, the satellite ended up stranded in a decaying Earth orbit, eventually leading to an uncontrolled reentry on January 15th, 2012. The video first depicts the planned mission then compares the stranded satellit
